Shy Child. 2 man band. Synth and kick drums. Dope!

I feel like everyone knows them already cause they're catchy as shit. But it's too cutting edge to be poppy. They almost seem to be taking techno towards jazz. The shit's live. I'm usually more into experimental tobin meets zorn kinda shit, but these kids are tight!

Anybody else in complete love with The synthetic dream foundation's newest album "Behind the gates of horn and ivory"? Def. one of the best albums I have come across this year. I think they have clips of it somewhere on their site. If you don't own a copy, I highly recommend getting one.

Saturday, 2/9 :: 99¢ Beats @ Shine

99¢ Beats made its smashing debut last month at Shine, briefly earning the title "2nd-best-party-of-the-year-so-far." So it is with great pride that we, the Pronoia crew, bring you Volume II of our bass-for-a-buck event on Feb. 9th!

Don't think for a nanosecond we'll skimp on the music because of that low low .99 cover. We're teaming up with a crew that's been operating under the radar in SF throwing renegade, underground, and club parties for years -- kindred spirits of Pronoia -- WildlifeSF (http://www.wildlifesf.com). Representing will be Ross Barringer and Craig O'Connell, who are known for rip-roaring dirty techy electro house, just the way we like it! Add to that the signature floorshaking electrotech & breaks the Pronoia DJs specialize in, and it's a party you have no excuse to miss.

Deets:

special guests:
ROSS BARRINGER / wildlife sf /
CRAIG O'CONNELL / wildlife sf /

+ resident party-bringers:
RAYDEUS / pronoia /
DEX STAKKER / opel, pronoia /
PIETER RIZEN / pronoia /

Cover: 99 cents (!)

When: Saturday, Feb 9, 10pm - 2am

Location: Shine, 1337 Mission St., SF

Spiral Blaster proudly presents:

Trigger Happy (live analog mix)

I'm not really good at long, flowery, and well worded fanciful promotional e-mails that take the reader on a voyage of the soul, but right now I wish that I was. I feel like a moron, I mean, I don't even have a theme, it ought to have been about the magickal spirits from the realm of the fairies, there ought to be some good ways to adapt a costume to the theme, you know, some way to make a sexy costume that has furry leg warmers, arm warmers, and wings, yet says (cut and paste the appropriate theme) all over it. For me it has been about solving problems, technical problems, compositional problems, performance problems.. I mean, after we invented the instrument, we had to figure out how to play it. Sadly, the problem with problems is that unless Janis Joplin has them, they aren't very sexy.

So anyway, Spiral Blaster has got some more FREE music for you all, 100% original, 100% live electronics, and NO LAPTOP computers. This has taken all of our combined wits, pocket change, time, and emotional stability to create this music, and its yours for free either by downloading directly from our podcast page:

http://spiralblaster.podomatic.com

or by subscribing to our podcast on itunes:

Thank you,
ABOUT THE ARTISTS
Diplo (Fools Gold, Philadelphia – www.myspace.com/diplo): There are few DJs or producers on planet earth who have accomplished as much in as little time as Wes Pentz. From the art-scene at the Guggenheim in New York, to the bullet-riddled favelas of Rio di Janeiro to the sweat-soaked streets of Bombay and Bangladesh, Diplo has redefined the concept of “world music”. His merger of electronic backbeats, international rhythms, obscure influences and uncompromising vocals defined a sound, a style, and wildly successful series of releases known as Hollertronix. He spent years circling the globe with London superstar MC M.I.A. in a collaboration that broke down genre walls and dropped a few political bombs as well. He is credited with bringing Brazil’s Baile Funk sound to the US, reworking “Dirty South instrumentality into high art” (Now Magazine) and challenging every commonly held notion about Djs and producers. Recently he confounded the Fools Gold label with Nick Catchdubs as a vehicle for further aural mayhem. He estimates that his own tracks and reworks comprise more than 80% of his sets, and the energy he puts into these tracks is only matched by the energy he unleashes while performing them. On New Years Eve at Temple, he will play an exclusive 2 hour set beginning at the stroke of midnight.

DJ Rekha (Basement Bhangra, NYC – www.myspace.com/djrheka) DJ Rekha is celebrating the release of her critically acclaimed debut album, DJ REKHA presents BASEMENT BHANGRA (named after her world famous long running NY monthly party) Born in London, proudly raised in New York, Rekha Malhotra is a cultural instigator who’s established herself as a musical pioneer and community activist. Newsweek recognized her as one of the most influential South Asians in the US, and she has been praised by The New York Times, CNN, The Fader, Village Voice, and The Washington Post, among others. She has been relentless in her mission to bring South Asian Music and Culture to New York by spinning at events like P.S. 1’s Warm Up Series, Central Park’s Summerstage, Soundlab and Brooklyn Museum’s First Saturdays as well as her own parties including Mutiny, Bollywood Disco and the incredibly popular Basement Bhangra. She is known for her extraordinary musical range and was even chosen by documentarian Sarah Jones to work on the Obie Winning show “Bridge and Tunnel.” Rekha was also picked to be Associate Producer and Music Supervisor for the NPR Documentary “Feet in Two Worlds.” DJ Rekha’s talents further extend into her own production company Sangament, which produces live concerts and provides specialized music consulting services to numerous businesses in the record industry.

Pharrell (Fluokids, Paris – www.fluokids.com) Pharrell is the "CEO" of the european audioblog "fluokids", at 23 years old he already has his own residence on the french national radio, played with most of the major artist of the new electronic scene, opened for Justice on their last French tour, and promotes the monthly 'panik' party in Paris. Behind the decks, he's not just runnin' the dancefloor hits of the moment, he always try to bring some new stuff, from his first techno feelings to the last electronic bangers.

Nick Catchdubs (Fools Gold, NYC – www.myspace.com/nickcatchdubs) Nick Catchdubs is a Brooklyn-based DJ and co-founder of the Fool's Gold record label. For the past four years he's been playing shows with the likes of MIA, Spank Rock and the Clipse, and rocking parties around the globe with a mix of hip hop, electro, dancehall, rock and more.

Motion Potion (the Fringe/ Mutaytor, SF – www.myspace.com/motionpotion)
The “Dj for people who hate Djs” (SFWeekly) seems to have something for everyone. Funk impresario, mashup enthusiast, and live collaborator with Parliament-Funkadelic, Rebirth Brass Band and the turntablist for the 45-piece indie techno circus known as the Mutaytor. His career has been an attempt to break down genre and scene barriers, playing every conceivable kind of music in the course of a night, a set, or a seven-minute mash-up. His productions aim to unify the dance club and the concert hall with juicy, listening music (rock and funk) arrayed over breakbeats. His mix CD's range wider than most label's catalogs; live mixes that range from underground hip hop to electronic breaks to world fusion to rare southern rock (downloadable at www.musicv2.com/artist/motion_potion). The common denominator seems to be "the funk" whether it be funky urban electronic breaks, funky underground hip hop, funky nu-school rock and electroclash, or just plain sho'nuff motherfunkin' FUNK.

DJ Richie Panic (Robot Rock/Frisco Disco –www.myspace.com/richiepanicisagod) Richie Panic has been one of the foremost innovators on the SF DJ scene for years now. His “Frisco Disco” party at the old Arrow Bar with Jeffrodesiac was one of the few local weeklies that deserved to be called “legendary”. From rock to punk to disco to house to ghetto-tech to becoming one of the city’s foremost tastemakers and an absolute authority on electroclash, Richie Panic is a San Francisco institution.

Eric Sharp (Rockit Science/Pacific Sound - www.myspace.com/ericsharp A staple of the San Francisco hosue scene, Eric Sharp seems to be anywhere and everywhere. From “Rockit Science” warehouse parties to the city’s most notable clubs, Eric drops every flavor of house under the sun. What sets him apart is his infectious enthusiasm for music and nightlife. Eric loves the hell out of life, music and probably you too; which is evident anytime you bump into him, or when you’re lucky enough to hear him spin.

Miss Toats & Richard Oh? (Big Stereo –www.myspace.com/bigstereosucks) Hosts of the weekly Tuesday night “Big Stereo” parties at Pink in the Mission, Miss Toats & Richard Oh?!! Make musical waves by staying ahead of the grain. Electro, rock, house, disco: the choicest cuts, the dopest downloads, the most haphazard fashion can all . It’s the music they take seriously, not themselves.

Janaka Selecta (Dhamaal - www. myspace.com/janakaselekta) For more than 5 years, Janaka Selekta organized and took part in some of the most groundbreaking underground musical gatherings in the Bay Area. The Dhamaal collective parties, taking place at Club 6 merged classical live Indian music with the most modern electronic beats, as well as South Asian fashion, cuisine, and artwork. In addition to Dhamaal \ Janaka has organized the massive “Worldly” parties, hosting international superstars like State of Bengal, Karsh Kale, General Midi and Cheb I Sabbah as well as weekly Outerworldly parties at Madrone Lounge. Janaka is an expert at South Asian and international breaks, house and d

We are super excited about this show!!!! If you couldn't tell by the lineup, the location, and all that other jazz, this show's goin to be a lot of fun. And after taking a 4 month break from throwing our bigger shows, we're really looking forward to seeing all of you there. YEEEAAAH!!!

Evil Breaks & Beat Church present:
DIRTY
October 20th, 2007
DNA Lounge - 375 11th St.
$10 b4 11pm / $15 after
10pm - 4am
21+

$10 presales end @ 3pm 10/20
http://groovetickets.com/ordersystem/Groove/eventviewqb.asp?AffilID=93&EventsID=33287&PGname=Evil+Breaks

It's been a few months since Evil Breaks has done a bigger party, and we figured we'd come back with something HUGE!!! We can't wait to see what these guys sound like on DNA's amazing sound system, and along with the amazing local support, Visuals by Viberation, and a special surprise guest upstairs, I really don't think you're going to want to miss this.

E.B.'s Dirty little room w/visuals by Viberation:

Lawgiverz (Trigger/Botchit) - UK

Lawgiverz, a.k.a. R-Kidz and Noize, have been dropping audio bombs for the last five years on Botchit & Scarper, Trigger Recordings and more. Lawgiverz have produced, programmed and remixed with a bizarre selection of artists such as Jeff Beck, Dave Stewart and The Human League. They would like you to know that none of this really matters. Just that if you find yourself in front of the Trigger sound system or at DNA during their laptop and turntable set, prepare to be destroyed with a helping of alien love in the Electrobreaks style.

Fine Cut Bodies (Chi Recordings/Record Records) - Budapest

Even though the name Fine Cut Bodies implies more than one person, behind the FCB letters is only one man, Kevin aka Attila Fodor. His musical tastes are extremely broad which is reflected in the musical preferences of *Chi Recordings*, the label he co-founded in 2000. One of the most important taste-maker DJs in Hungary, he has been one of the key DJs/promoters that built up the huge breaks scene in Hungary and he is now starting to build up the world class underground minimal and tech-house scene in Budapest.

As a DJ, Kevin's taste is determined more by his musical attitude than by any specific genre: he looks for music that's experimental but not selfish, interesting but not unlistenable. As a producer, he has released tracks in many genres and is always looking for new sonic adventures. Kevin's tracks have been licensed for numerous compilations and he has collaborated with and remixed for some of the hottest names in electronic music.

Aaron Jae (E.B./XM Radio/Space Cowboys)
Bam (Evil Breaks/ABN)
M.O.D. (Evil Breaks)
Raydeus (Pronoia)

Beat Church hosting the upstairs room:

Lawgiverz (A 2nd Mid-tempo set)

Kitty-D (The Glitch Mob/Beat Church)
Hookerz & Blow (Mozaic vs EPROM)
Benchun(False Profit)

Hi, sorry about the randomness of this posting, Spiral Blaster is a New York based Techno duo, and we would love to get a little feedback from you kids out west. We use an MPC Sampler and a Serge Modular Analogue Sythesizer as the core of our rig, and we use a little Delay box too, but that's all. This is a live show from 3.21.07, just this past wednesday, so the material is brand spanking new, and I wanted to use this global village syndrome of tribe to bounce these ideas off of y'all.

Dubalicious v. Freeform at SHINE - Friday 3/23 - 9pm-2am
Free before 11pm - $5 after 11pm

DJS:
Dex Stakker (Opulent Temple)
Iyad (Freeform)
Floorcraft (Freeform)
Jonboy (Dubalicious)

Welcome to the third installment of Dubalicious v. Freefrom at Shine (1337 Mission at 9th). Joining residents Iyad, Floorcraft, and Jonboy for the night will be Dex Stakker from Opulent Temple. He will be bringing the Opulent Temple sound along with our residents playing the breaks, electro, progressive, and tribal beats that we all know and love.

DEX STAKKER (Opulent Temple) - Hailing from Eastern Washington, a place practically devoid of electronic music, Dex found his musical and spiritual home in the San Francisco breaks and house scene. Inspired and fostered by Burning Man camp Opulent Temple, he has emerged as an up-and-comer in the pleasantly competitive SF DJ community, having opened for such breaks and house luminaries as Meat Katie and Elite Force.

Save The How Weird Street Fair

(Please forward to all lists!!!) This is my favorite SF event and now it may not happen

The How Weird Street Fair needs your help!

On Febuary 8th, the How Weird Street Fair, a 10,000
person festival celebrating the art and culture of San
Francisco, appeared before ISCOTT to renew its permit
for this year's fair to be held on May 6, 2007. This
request was rejected despite the 100% safety record of
the event. The reasons cited were neighborhood
opposition, and a small group of neighbors have
registered complaints about the fair. We are committed
to reaching out to this small group of neighbors, but
we also are deeply committed to this fair and the vast
majority of local neighbors who support it.

There is an appeal hearing at 10am on Thursday Feb.
22, 2007 at 1 South Van Ness Avenue on the 7th Floor.
The public is invited to attend.

Here's how you can help:

Below is a draft letter that you can use to write the
Department of Parking and Traffic, the appeal body for
the How Weird Street Fair permit. Please sign, date,
and email or fax the letter to Cindy Shamban no later
than Tuesday, February 20th. The contact info is...

EMAIL = Cindy.Shamban@sfmta.com +
SaveHowWeird@gmail.com

FAX = (415) 701-4769

Cindy Shamban
Deptartment of Parking & Traffic
1 South Van Ness Avenue, 7th Floor
San Francisco, CA 94103-5417

The How Weird Street Faire thanks you for taking time
to help us keep San Francsico art and culture alive.

Sincerely,
The Organizers of the How Weird Street Faire
www.HowWeird.org

-----------------------------------------------------------

RE: SUPPORT FOR THE 8TH ANNUAL HOW WEIRD STREET FAIRE

It has come to my attention that the How Weird Street
Faire (scheduled for May 6, 2007) is in critical
danger of being cancelled due to the denial of its
street permits by ISCOTT, in spite of a perfect safety
record. As the appeal authority for ISCOTT, I urge you
to reconsider this decision and issue the permit for
this fair.

The How Weird Street Faire is a unique cultural event
that makes San Francisco a special place to live and
work. 10,000 San Franciscans attend and support this
event that celebrates the city’s avant guard music,
fashion and ideals. The How Weird Street Faire
contributes to San Francisco as a benefit for the
non-profit World Peace Through Technology
Organization, which inspires peace through benevolent
uses of technology; and the Arc, a local non-profit
that provides jobs and training to disabled people. I
urge you to recognize the critical value of this event
to citywide residents, the fair's non-profit
beneficiaries, the arts community, and an overwhelming
number of local neighbors who strongly support the
fair, by issuing its requested permits.

Anyone want to go and see Jeff Mills this Saturday night.....

Hey Everyone,

I have an extra ticket to see The legendary Jeff Mills at Mighty's in SF. I am new to the scene in SF but have spent many years in Detroit, Chicago, and Honolulu. I am also a house and tech house dj. I have been living in SF for six months now and attending The Academy of Art University. I am finding it really hard to meet friends and get into the dance music scene. Let me know if you would like a ticket at only 15 dollars. It is the first time that Jeff Mills is playing in SF so you know it is going to be a great show. If you want to know more about me you can look at my profile. Call me at 415-671-5459 if you would like to go.

Peace,scene

Dustfish and Dubalicious: Don't Give a F*@K - Friday 8/11 at BOCA

Why is the trashiest camp in Black Rock City having a fundraiser in
an art bar?

Why are some people dressed to the nines and others look like their
mother should never have let them choose their own clothes?

Why is there a Trashiest Booty contest?

Why is there a Dance Like U R Alone in YOUr Room contest?

Why are the Djays kicking my ass?

Why is everyone too drunk for drama?

You already know the answers so come out and show us how few F*@KS
you can give.

GARY NUMAN

Thursday, July 27th, Strangelove pays homage to electro pioneer GARY NUMAN. DJs Fact50 and Tomas Diablo will be spinning the best dark electro, new wave and industrial from Gary Numan and like-minded artists. We will be giving away tickets to see Gary Numan perform live at the Fillmore (August 19th). And III returns with a stunning display of visuals that's sure to please any androgynous android.

Featured drink: Numanade

Details below...

STRANGELOVE: tribute to GARY NUMAN
Thursday, June 27th
with DJs Fact50 and Tomas Diablo
and visuals by III
at the UndergroundSF (424 Haight at Webster)

* * * * * * * * * * * *

WHY WE LOVE GARY NUMAN:

In 1979, Gary Numan turned away from guitars and embraced the cold new sound of synthesizers. In the span of just 6 months, he released "Replicas" and "The Pleasure Principle", and created a whole new genre: synth. Since then he has continuously re-invented himself, and in 1994, Gary embraced industrial and darkwave. In 2003, Gary released "Hybrid", a collection of industrial revisions of older material, and one of the greatest albums of this decade so far.

Dubalicious Returns!! Sat. 7/15 at Catalyst Cocktails

On Saturday, 7/15, join the Space Cowboys' Mancub alongside residents Jonboy, Shabadoo and the Professor Vince Lim for a night of funky breaks, electro and tech house at the return of Dubalicious. Catalyst Cocktails is located South of Market at 312 Harriet Street (at Bryant b/t 6th & 7th). 9pm-2am.

Lineup:

Mancub (Space Cowboys/Sleevin Records)
It is hard to nail his style down, most would say “funky, sometimes nasty”.Chip “Mancub” Corwin is currently voted as a top ten dj of San Francisco. He has been blowing up the block party jams for over ten years. Mancub has a very diffinitive style of turntable tricks that have earned him slots beside some of the dance industry’s biggest headliners. His turntable antics are too numerous to mention but include scratching while wearing boxing gloves, he certainly knows how to work the crowd into a frenzy!!

Jonboy (Dubalicious)
Shabadoo (Dubalicious/Lucid)
The Professor Vince Lim (Dubalicious)

It's free and it's every Tuesday at Boca (414 Jessie Street)
Satamile moved to SF last year and has been putting out dope Electro for quite some time.
Aside from my event posts I didn't see it on here (well I diidn't look too hard, just the front page posts)
So this is just a heads up for Electro heads on this Electro Tribe, residents include myself bi-weekly, Ripple,
Forest Green and Satamile himself, it's every Tuesday evening 8PM to 1AM.
see you there sometime ;)

Thought when looking for a great new place in the Panhandle, SF, I would just go straight to the source ~ those of you who live in these parts. I am looking for a 1-bd or large Studio, outdoor space, cat friendly, good neighbors, up to $1500 for the right place. Would love an "as-is" hand-me-down. Move in June 1st. Me, nice, relaxed girl. Art/Architecture/Music/Dance/ The great outdoors. Will sign long lease. Any local heads-up/word of mouth is great appreciated.

Best,
~T~

Big San Francisco Quake predicted for Sunday, May 28th

Scientists have unanimously concluded that the next big quake will hit San Francisco on Sunday, May 28th, between 9PM and 2AM. They have even managed to pinpoint the exact location of the epicenter - at a lovely art deco bar named Catalyst Cocktails, at 312 Harriet Street (off Bryant between 6th and 7th).
